User Population/Workload Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Workload Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

User Population Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can you explain how you arrive at the Userpop counts and how the process was determined?
What is the IHS definition of a userpop?
Who decided on the definition?
Where can I get the official Userpop count? What if I disagree with my numbers?
How should I interpret the Userpop reports on the web?
How does the Userpop report on the web relate to the “official Userpop count” issued by HQ?

The official Userpop reports published by HQ have three columns:

  • Indian Registrants
  • Active Indian Registrants
  • Indian User Population Estimates

The Area’s “official number” as published by HQ appears at the top right of the page. The total “Indian User Population Estimates” for the Area.

Because this number can incorporate some manual (not in the NDW) adjustments made at HQ, it may not match precisely with any number of the found on the Area’s Userpop report on the web.

The closest comparable number would be the total “Active Indian Registrants” for the Area - the center top number on the report. If you look at any of the Userpop reports except UP6 (see “What are the Userpop report options?”), you will be able to derive that number using figures on the web report using these steps:

  • Find the ITU summary line for each of the ITUs associated with your area
  • Add each of the non-urban ITU total ‘Indian Actives’ (LESS any reported in service unit ‘00’)

Note: Specific ITUs are often excluded from the HQ published number (usually ‘Urban’ ITUs).    [Close]
