Residential Programs - Youth

Residential treatment is required for youth that cannot be adequately treated in an outpatient setting. Youth that require this level of treatment generally have substance abuse problems that are serious, and interfere with school, family life, or have gotten into trouble with the law. This level of treatment is more intense than group home, or a transitional living center treatment. It generally includes substance abuse assessment, around the clock observation, individual and group substance abuse counseling, 12-step groups, mental health assessment and treatment, family therapy, academic assessment and placement, life-skills training, vocational assessment and planning, and recreational activities. Those run by an Indian health program or tribe generally include a cultural and traditional healing component. Residential treatment generally last three to six months, or more.

The California Youth Regional Treatment Center, Desert Sage Youth Wellness Center, which will be operated by the California Indian Health Service, is scheduled to open early in 2017. At that time, we will admit youths who have substance use disorders and require residential services. For youths that require additional treatment modalities, we will continue to use the youth residential programs listed below.  Updates and information about Desert Sage can be found on our CA YRTC webpage.
