Subject: FW: Tribal Consultation on the Distribution of the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI) for FY 2015, Webinar on January 17, 2014 at 10 AM
Importance: High

Dear Tribal Officials,

The IHS Director issued a Dear Tribal Leader Letter (DTLL) on December 20, 2013 to initiate tribal consultation on the national distribution of funding for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI) in FY 2015.  In previous years, these funds are competitively awarded by IHS Headquarters; there is no competitive process within the California Area.

Authorization for the SDPI expires at the end of FY 2014 (September 30, 2014).  While there have been recent positive developments in Congress, it is not yet known if SDPI will be reauthorized beyond the current FY and if so, for how many years (one year vs. multiple years) and for what amount (current $150 million per year or another amount).

Note:  The Senate Finance Committee recently proposed reauthorization of the current SDPI funding level for 5 years, but Congress still needs to consider this proposal.

If SDPI is reauthorized, IHS needs to be prepared to award the FY 2015 funding.

To initiate the SDPI Tribal Consultation, the California Area Office (CAO) will hold a Webinar conference call on January 17, 2014 at 10:00 AM to 12 noon (PST).

Please join us on this date, as your contribution is very important.
