Subject: Announcement of the Southern California YRTC Contractor

Dear Tribal leader, CATAC Member, and Program Director:

On behalf of Dr. Yvette Roubideaux, Acting Director, IHS, and the California Area IHS, it is my pleasure to announce that a contract has been awarded for construction of the Southern California Youth Regional Treatment Center (YRTC).

The base contract in the amount of $12,818,000 was awarded on September 26,2014 to Cox Construction Company, Vista, CA.  Additional information about Cox Construction can be found at http://coxconstructionco.com/index.html Exit Disclaimer: You Are Leaving www.ihs.gov.

Cox Construction will have 410 calendar days to complete construction upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed.  The Notice to Proceed is planned to be issued in the near future through the IHS Division of Engineering Services (DES-Dallas) upon the contractor meeting certain contractual requirements.  The DES-Dallas office is located in Dallas, TX and provides professional architectural, engineering, project management, and acquisition services in support of construction of new IHS facilities such as the Southern California YRTC.  The DES-Dallas, in consultation with the California Area Indian Health Service, will have overall responsibility for managing the contract for construction of the Southern California YRTC.

While there is still much work to be completed, we are looking forward to the start of construction to reach our shared goal of having a complete and operational facility to meet the healthcare needs of Native American youth in California.

Please be assured that the California Area Indian Health Service continues planning activities in anticipation of Congressional approval of the President’s FY 2015 Budget for design and construction of the Northern California YRTC.

For questions related to construction of the Southern California YRTC, contact CDR Paul Frazier, Director, Division of Health Facilities Engineering by phone at (916)930-3945, extension 365, or by email at paul.frazier@ihs.gov
