Strategic Plan

In 2011, IHS published a behavioral health strategic plan and a briefing book detailing goals and objectives for dealing with suicide, alcoholism, substance abuse, and other behavioral health issues in Indian Country.

The American Indian/Alaska Native National Behavioral Health Strategic Plan 2011–2015 [PDF - 1.5 MB] provides guidance to develop Tribal, Urban, and IHS behavioral health programs. A mutually supportive system is created by emphasizing sobriety, community, elders, and positive youth development for cultural renewal and wellness, which provides a strong foundation for effective behavioral health services.
