Summary:

This biennial conference is designed to provide IHS, tribal, and urban dental program staff [dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, dental therapists] with evidence-based clinical practice continuing dental education as well as allow them to network with other oral health providers. Estimated attendance will be 500-600 dental staff.

The agenda for this meeting is being sent out via the IHS Dental Listserv, the IHS Dental Chiefs Listserv, the IHS Dental Hygienists Listserv, through Area Dental Officers, and through the Dental Support Centers. If you need instructions on how to join the listserv, please e-mail IHSCDECoordinator@ihs.gov. Any updates to the agenda will also be sent through the listservs.

TUITION: Tuition IS required for all dental staff attending from tribal programs that have taken their IHS Headquarters dental shares. If you are unsure if that applies to you or not, please check with your Area Dental Officer. Tuition must be paid in advance by May 1, 2019 using the IHS Tuition Payment Form [e-mail IHSCDECoordinator@ihs.gov if you cannot find the form]. Tuition is $250 per person. Attendees owing tuition will be invoiced on or about April 1st and again on or about April 15th; it is your responsibility to forward those invoices to your finance departments if necessary. Tuition receipts will be e-mailed to participants within 2 weeks after the conference ends.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants should be able to:
1. Describe three priorities of the U.S. Surgeon General;
2. List three new issues related to infection control in dental settings; and
3. Explain the status of Community Health Aides, dental therapists, and expanded function dental assistants across the U.S. and their use in IHS and tribal programs.

Individual sessions will have learning objectives as well.

The IHS Division of Oral Health is an accredited sponsor of continuing education under the American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program (CERP). ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to the IHS at IHS CDE Coordinator or to the Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition at CCEPR.ada.org

Prerequisites:

Participants must be dental staff of IHS, tribal, or IHS-funded urban dental programs; spouses, pets, and other family members are not allowed to attend sessions. Pre-registration by June 1, 2019 is required - no on-site registration is available. Registration is only available online through the IHS CDE Portal [must have CDE account to register].

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
