This one-hour webinar is available only to Portland Area dental staff. Dial-in information will be given out to clinics by the dental support center. This two-part webinar will provide the science and clinical protocols of SMART, minimally invasive dentistry and the power plus added value of employing the medical management of caries to any dentist’s restorative repertoire during and after a viral pandemic.

Speaker information: John Frachella, DMD is a pediatric dentist in Oregon and Maine with 45 years experience in the delivery of dental services in public and private settings. For the first 32 years of his career he was the dental director of a free clinic for indigent children in Bangor, Maine and for ten years served as the director of federal clinics in Wheeler County, Oregon. He also works in private practices across the country, is on staff at OHSU Dental School and lectures for NYU Lutheran Medical College dental residency programs. Dr. John Frachella is a national leader in the use of SDF and how SDF impacts dental schools and clinical practice. He presents new options in the management of caries lesions, especially in certain instances and populations. Over the past decade, Dr. Frachella has been using silver solutions in combination with glass-ionomer technology to arrest caries while simultaneously addressing destructive dental cavitation [called Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Technique - SMART]. He sees the minimally invasive medical management of caries as a new, historically proven, highly preventive standard of care for the treatment of worldwide populations of children and special needs adults who desperately need dental services the most.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:
1.   Explain the medical management of the bacterial causes and effects of carious lesions.
2.   Describe the importance of removing all caries, or lack thereof required for caries management.
3.   List the components of minimally-invasive dentistry and when to use each component.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
