Summary:

This is a special USPHS presentation on behalf of the USPHS Therapist Category.

This panel discussion will define and highlight the role of rehabilitation therapists [PT, SLP, Audiology] in managing oral facial conditions, specifically temporomandibular joint [TMJ] dysfunction and when tinnitus may be related to TMJ dysfunction. Exploration of the impact of altered oral function as it relates to the swallowing and speech mechanisms and their impact on quality of life. Investigation of the role of modifiable lifestyle factors including sleep, nutrition, and chronic stresses they relate to oral facial pain conditions. Through live discussion sample demonstrations of treatment for the above may be provided. Additional resources for continued learning and application will also be provided.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.    Explore the role of cervical spine in TMJ dysfunction.
2.    Describe the oral function as it relates to the speech and swallowing mechanism, and
3.    Differentiate causes of tinnitus and when it may be related to TMJ dysfunction.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
