Summary:

An indigenous based diet is an important part of strengthening the tie many Native people have with the wisdom of their ancestors. Adopting an indigenous diet encourages Native people to consider the gifts of the earth and how it provides nourishment. This session will provide information on how traditional foods are an integral part of indigenous culture in general and will look specifically at Chippewa/Cree and Navajo traditions and food. Insights and recommendations from community members for patient education and counseling will be shared.
