Summary:

The purpose of this 3 half day course is to give I/T/U dental programs within the Southwest Region [Phoenix, Tucson, and Navajo] the opportunity to learn new skills, improve current skills and to provide the opportunity for networking and collaborative planning and evaluation of service unit dental programs. The SWDSC’s focus is to provide support, guidance and training for the SW Regional dental clinics to address disparities in communities served by improving prevention programs, oral health surveillance and monitoring, and improving quality of patient care using evidence-based methods.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.   Apply and assess appropriate infection control practices and protocols within the dental setting to ensure staff and patient safety and maintain accreditation.
2.    Apply risk management skills in IHS and tribal programs.
3.   Utilize new techniques for providing patient care for patients with special needs and complex medical conditions.
4.   Explain the new AAP periodontal classification system, how it relates to the CPITN, and its relevance to treatment planning.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
