2025 Catalog: General Courses

The Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center [GLITEC] supports Tribal Nations and urban Indian communities in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin by providing culturally grounded public health services, research, and technical assistance. GLITEC works in partnership with Tribal communities to collect, analyze, and protect health data in ways that honor Tribal sovereignty and self-determination. Through its commitment to Tribal data sovereignty, GLITEC ensures that data is owned, controlled, and used by Tribes to inform decision-making, strengthen services, including diabetes management programs, and support the well-being of Native communities across the Bemidji region.

Objectives and Outcomes: As a result of completing this training, the healthcare team will be able to:
1.Examine current challenges in Tribes attaining data to help improve diabetes health outcomes in their communities
2.Formulate strategies to incorporate the principles of Tribal data sovereignty and OCAP into the planning and implementation of diabetes management programs.
3.Identify the principles of Tribal data sovereignty, including ownership, control, access, and possession [OCAP], and how these principles apply to support public health initiatives in Tribal communities, such as diabetes management programs.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
