Description:This presentation will explain the physiological effects of nicotine on the body with a focus on the relationship to diabetes management and outcomes. It will review current evidence-based nicotine cessation strategies including behavioral interventions and pharmacotherapy. Finally, it will demonstrate incorporating those strategies into patient visits.
Objectives and Outcomes: As a result of completing this training, the healthcare team will be able to:1.Examine the effects of nicotine on insulin resistance, blood glucose regulation, and overall metabolic function and their implications for patient care2.Evaluate the role of nicotine and tobacco use in the development and progression of diabetes and its complications.3.Integrate evidence-based nicotine cessation interventions into patient care plans to improve diabetes management and health outcomes.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
