A Unique Place to Practice Dentistry

The Indian Health Service (IHS) Division of Oral Health (DOH) offers dentists an opportunity to practice dentistry in a unique environment — one that combines the experience of practicing in state-of-the art facilities and offers the kind of opportunity, adventure and purpose that comes from serving Indian communities.

Pediatric Dentist Educates, Advocates for Children and Families

Dr. Katrina Naasz never thought she would go to college, let alone dental school — she knew her parents couldn’t afford to pay for a higher education. So she became a dental assistant. But after working in a dental office for six years, she earned a bachelor’s degree and then graduated from dental school in 2003, becoming one of a small number of American Indian woman dentists. She recently returned to the Phoenix Indian Medical Center after two years of training to specialize in pediatric dentistry.

He Sought Adventure and Found a Calling

When he finished dental school in Mississippi, LCDR Brian Talley was looking for an adventure. So he joined the Indian Health Service (IHS) as an officer in the US Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps. He is now a pediatric dentist whose clinical services are shared by three Tribal clinics along the border of Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico.
