Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) remain a major public health challenge in the U.S. and disproportionally affect certain racial and ethnic groups, including American Indian and Alaska Native people. The IHS National STD Program works to improve STD screening rates and enhance prevention efforts to reduce the impact of sexually transmitted diseases in Indian Country.

The IHS Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program nurtures excellence in holistic approaches that promote healthy lifestyles, families, and communities. Programs address alcohol misuse by improving access to behavioral health services through telebehavioral health methods, and by providing a comprehensive array of preventative, educational and treatment services.

New Youth Regional Treatment Center Opens in California
The Indian Health Service is pleased to announce the completion of the Desert Sage Youth Wellness Center in Hemet, California which is about 90 miles east of Los Angeles. This is the first federally operated facility in the IHS California Area and will provide behavioral health services to youth ages 12 to 17.
