Summary: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week . ** NOTE: Competition for Housekeeping Aid is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veteran's Preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. For Applicants applying under the provision of the Excepted Service Examining Plan, Consideration for this position is limited to applicants entitled to VETERANS Preference. If there are less than three veterans available, Non- Preference eligibles may be considered.. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupation Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties this position without normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume. Your resume must demonstrate specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience using proper cleaning techniques, prepares cleaning liquids, floor solution, and using prescribe cleaning procedures. Operates different machines such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor polishers, etc. Following procedures to prevent cross-contamination of rooms and in transporting of soiled linens. Knowledgeable in proper cleaning techniques and utilization of special procedures for isolation cleaning. *Must have a valid state driver's license. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical effort is required continuously in performance of manual cleaning tasks. Walking, standing long periods, requires bending, lifting, pushing, and climbing. There are occasional short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture and lifting of items over 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside with adequate lighting, ventilation and occasionally outside when washing of windows inside the facility, and outdoor clinics, will be exposed to some mechanical hazards, some moving objects, crowded room, and wet slippery floor surfaces, icy streets. Will be subject to chapped hands from working with detergents and water. Subject to danger from cuts, bruises and minor shocks from working with power machines. Subject to exposure to disease being treated in the hospital, danger of falling off stepladders cleaning high areas, hanging of drapery and curtains. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
