Staff Physician (Family Practice) opportunity in Northeastern Arizona. Beyond the city, bona-fide treasures of panoramic delights await you in Fort Defiance, Arizona! Tséhootsooí Medical Center is the primary hospital for Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board's healthcare delivery system. Accredited by CMS, TMC provides general outpatient and inpatient healthcare to 16 surrounding communities. TMC also provides same-day surgery, a diagnostic center, a growing network of primary care and ancillary services.
Duties: Serves as a Staff Physician [Family Medicine] at Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board, Inc. involves performance of family oriented and comprehensive health and medical care services at FDIHB, School Clinics or other designated health care facilities. At the direction of Chief of Family Practice, incumbent may be assigned to assist at Nahat'á Dziil Health Center and rotates within the in-patient hospital setting as necessary. Within the specialty area, assumes responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and maintenance therapy and rehabilitation of patients of all ages. Typical, but not all inclusive assignments include the following: Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, performs admission history and physical and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case. Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs prescribes or provides treatment, or arranges for specialized care or patient referrals as required. Bases decisions upon information obtained, professional medical knowledge and skills and prescribed policies and procedures. Makes notes of observations to be incorporated into clinical records. Provides emergency care as required. Provides definitive management in all medical categories or cases that do not require referral. Gives total patient care including preventing health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow up services to patients under his/her care. Conducts outpatient clinics making observations appropriate to the outpatients underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patients medications, diet, therapy course, adherence to management plan and patient observations. Modifies regimen as indicated. Instructs and council patients and family members as required. Performs or assists other physician in the performance of minor surgery. Provides emergency care on a regular and ongoing basis to patients seen in the emergency room. This includes major trauma including fractures of multiple extremities, stab wounds, open wounds of the chest and abdomen, partial evisceration, concussion, head trauma, subdural hematoma, etc. Emergency cases also include suicide attempts, and cardiac arrests. Makes appropriate referrals and obtain appropriate consultation after primary compete evaluation and documentation has been completed. Recognizes and give initial treatment of acute psychiatric problems. Delivers infants, obtaining consultation as deemed necessary, and provides or arranges for postpartum care. Refers patients to appropriate contracted medical or other government facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at local IHS facilities. Coordinates and integrates information obtained into the ongoing Health Care Program at the Service Unit and assures the provision of timely follow up care as required. Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Dictates clinical reports summaries and correspondence concerning patients under his/her care in a timely manner. Works closely with allied health professionals [e.g., Community Health Nurse, Social Workers, Health Educators, etc.], to utilize and coordinate the services of other health care professionals in the management of the families medical, psychological and social problems. Incumbent is considered a senior clinical specialist in Family Medicine, and will assume appropriate administrative duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Occasional travel to Nahat'á Dziil Health Center to assist in patient care. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: EXPERIENCE: No additional experience required outside of a completed residency program as defined in the Education qualifications listed below. EDUCATION: Completion of an accredited Medical School Program. Completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency Program [Three [3] years]. Board Eligible or Certification by an approved American Specialty Board. Active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S State or Territory. Current, valid, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency [DEA] License. Primary assignments include providing comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services for members of families. Assignments involve the full range of cases and problems in the field of family medicine, including the very difficult, where there is responsibility for recognizing difficult-to-identify symptoms or signs, and with responsibility for developing a full treatment regimen involving a knowledge of the most up to date techniques. Incumbent also has the responsibility for medical student, interns, or residents assigned for training in this specialty. In cases where there is a lack of facilities or policies for special care, patients are referred to other facilities for specialized care. Incumbent must be knowledgeable of Service Unit Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulation, and comply with all requirements for appointment to and maintaining status as active member of the medical staff. As required, performs medically related or patient care assignments that: Fall outside the designated area of specializing or experience and, Involve working in other service units or facilities on an emergency or other contingency basis. Works on a regularly assigned, rotation or call back basis to provide continuity of medical services during evenings, nights holidays, and weekends. This position has been designated as an essential position and as much the incumbent of this position is required to occupy government quarters on an availability basis for the purpose of providing projection of life and/or property. Meets the criteria for Credentialing Privileging of FDIHB Medical Staff Membership of the FDIHB Medical Staff Bylaws. A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. SALARY IS DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE.
