RN (Resource RN Labor/Delivery and Postpartum Care

Summary: Under general direction, this position is a unit-based leadership position that is the role model for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through the behaviors associated with Leadership, the Art, and the Science of Nursing. This position is a mentoring and education position with occasional need to work clinically as a staff RN.
Duties: Resource Nurse Duties: • Serves as a clinical expert who promotes adherence to evidence based practice and is responsible for being aware of all evidence-based hospital iniatives. • Serves as primary preceptor for new graduate nurses and new hires. • Active in participation of the development of interdisciplinary care plans within the unit, working with social work, patient services coordinators, medical providers and other staff in coordinating care. • Serves as a mentor, coach, and educator for new and existing staff. • Meets with the nurses of the shift at the beginning of the shift for Safety Huddle where a brief discussion is held regarding specific safety issues on the unit, updating staff on falls, new protocols and other pertinent data related to patient care • Facilitates learning on the unit utilizing Benner's model for clinical practice (novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, expert). • Gives effective developmental feedback to the learner in a constructive and tactful manner regarding performance and improvement. • Promotes the maintenance of quality patient care by being the role model for Leadership, and the Art and Science of Nursing. • Has a working knowledge of the evidence-based practices utilized at FDIHB and ensures consistent adherence to these practices. • Utilizes effective problem solving strategies and resolves conflicts in a constructive manner. • Facilitates learning using adult learning principles that stimulate problem-solving skills in the staff, and encourages ongoing personal development of the individual staff members. • Participates in the unit Quality Assessment, Performance Improvement processes and assists staff in meeting project deadlines on a monthly basis. • Schedules ongoing assessments and goals for staff members in conjunction with the Nurse Manager to facilitate and expand staff knowledge and professional growth. • Collaborates with the clinical education department to provide unit specific training to staff. • Provides timely feedback to new employees during orientation and reports employees' progress to Nurse Executive. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: • Five (5) years professional nursing experience involving direct patient care. • Two (2) years' experience in providing education and training to nursing staff. • Two (2) years of leadership experience • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or diploma from an accredited nursing program. • Valid and unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory. • Must have (or obtain orientation) unit specific certifications
