Summary: We are a Nez Perce Tribal run ambulatory health clinic serving eligible clients on or near the Nez Perce reservation

The Medical Director will provide a full scope of medical services to patients and leadership in support of the operations and management of Nimiipuu Health.
Duties: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE AS FOLLOWS: Patient Access Utilization 1. Deliver patient care in a responsible, culturally sensitive, respectful and caring manner; provide medical screening, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and prevention services in an outpatient clinic; document all patient visits no less than 72 hours following the patient visit using electronic health record data system; order or execute various tests; analyze reports and findings; administer or prescribe treatment and medications. 2. Refer patients to medical specialist or other practitioner for specialized treatment when the patient's medical needs are beyond the limits of the medical facility and/or beyond the scope of the medical provider. Will coordinate referral services with other medical practitioners or medical facilities and with other Nimiipuu Health staff such as Behavioral Health, Contract Health, Dental, Massage, Optometry, and Community Health. 3. Provide for overall responsibility and accountability for medical policy, medical decisions related to the clinical care of patients including emergency and referral services funded through Purchase/Referred Care and for working in partnership with operations staff to manage day to day clinical service delivery; provide medical leadership, including identification of priorities for performance improvements in care, services and treatment for Nimiipuu Health's patient population; serve as a liaison and advisor to other professional personnel regarding patients and programming issues; provide specialty services and clinics per program directives and needs: assists community health educators by providing in-service and consultation; provide medical staff in-services; conduct patient and community education clinics. 4. Responsible for reviewing and approving provider requests for scheduling templates, with acknowledgement of external requirements impacting and influencing federal funding. 5. Coordinates and approves the schedule of medical provider staff to optimize access to patient care in consideration of patient utilization, current staffing levels and anticipated demand of patient care. 6. Assists in the review and evaluation of patient cancellation and no-show rates for each medical staff provider on no less than a monthly basis. 7. Identifies, communicates and implements changes to decrease no-show and cancellation rates with a goal to maintain less than 10% non-utilized appointment time for each provider. 8. Responsible for maintaining a consistent schedule of 50% administrative duties and 50% direct patient care responsibilities (patient panel-appointed care) unless otherwise approved by the Executive Director. Administration 1. Manages, trains and evaluates medical staff; provides clinical supervision to Kamiah Staff; promote health care objectives while providing a positive, efficient work environment. 2. Chairs Peer Review and Medical Floor Department meetings with agendas, minutes and action items recorded. At Executive Directors request, serves on committees and meetings that enhance patient care and professional growth. These include: the Managers meetings, Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P and T), Utilization Review Committee (URC), Risk Management, Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), Controlled Substance Committee, Behavioral Health/Medical Meeting, Quality Improvement (QI) and the Diabetes Management (DM) Task Force Committee Meeting. 3. Provides for overall administration of the Medical Department and programs: trains, supervises and evaluates other Physicians, Mid-Level Providers, Pharmacy and Laboratory Managers, Nursing Operations Supervisor and other assigned temporary clinical staff; supervise and assure certification where necessary for Laboratory/Radiology, Pharmacy and Nursing staff, participate and support the hiring of all medical providers and nursing staff, ensuring the appropriate and timely credentialing and privileging of medical staff; creates an atmosphere which encourages motivation, innovation, and high performance; identifies and resolves personnel/.departmental challenges; evaluates Department goals and objectives as they relate to the strategic plan and overall goals and mission of Nimiipuu Health. 4. Develops and maintains Medical Department budget, provides input and recommendations for staffing levels, equipment needs, monitor expenditures of budget; recognize and implement ways to reduce or eliminate significant barriers to expedite patient care and to promote
Qualifications: EDCUATION AND EXPERIENCE M.D. or D.O. with current certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine or related field. Must have completed an internship, be board certified with at least five (5) years of clinical experience. Must be licensed to practice medicine in Idaho, or able to attain State of Idaho license within one (1) year of appointment. Must have CPR, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification, or become certified within six (6) months. Knowledge of history, culture and health needs of Native American communities preferred. Must possess the ability to work independently, be computer literate and have good knowledge of EHR clinical software. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Prefer completion of leadership training. Must be organized, requires ability to handle conflict and crisis in a professional manner. Must possess a valid driver's license with an insurable record and the ability to pass an extensive background check and pre-employment drug screening. Must have a positive work history. Tribal Preference applies.
