Summary: Located in Northeast Nebraska on the Santee Sioux Reservation, the Santee Health and Wellness Center provides comprehensive outpatient medical care with education, prevention, rehabilitation and evidence-based medicine to approximately 4,500 Tribal patients.

The Medical Director/Physician is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and treatment in ambulatory care and provides direct supervision of primary care medical staff, including two physician assistants, a nurse manager, and directing the primary care clinical services. The Medical Director/Physician also provides oversight to the pharmacy, radiology, and laboratory departments and coordinates planning and provision of primary care clinical services with physical therapy, optometry, clinic social worker, nutrition services, community health, Emergency Medical Services, and other clinical service departments.
Duties: 1. Assumes role of the medical director of the clinic. 2. Exercises full supervisory authority, directly and indirectly, over clinical staff members including but not limited to nursing, nutrition, physical therapy, EMS, CAC/IT Analyst, and appointment desk. Will provide supervision of temporary providers. a. Plans and conducts, and oversees training programs and staff meetings. b. Confers regularly with staff to plan and coordinate activities, assign and review work, assist with difficult or unusual tasks or problems. c. Conducts performance reviews of Physician Assistants, Nurse Manager and other assigned clinical staff. d. Participates in the development, negotiation, and maintenance of contracts for temporary clinicians, staff, and external business partners in conjunction with the Administrative Officer. e. Ensures proper planning of staffing needs and work schedules. f. Identifies training resources. g. Orients new medical staff members. 3. Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the health care delivery system giving special consideration to the integration of internal administrative, clinical and community health policies, with the standards and requirements of various regulatory and accrediting duties. 4. Provides medical advice and support for HEART Program and Community Health Programs. 5. Incumbent works in close partnership with nursing and other clinical leadership to ensure high quality services. 6. Establish, review, and maintain medical standards with the aim of assuring quality of care and accreditation. 7. Ensures the maintenance of medical staff clinical privileges thought the review of professional credentials and in conjunction with annual medical staff evaluations. 8. Coordinates medical staff functions such quality assurance and accreditation activities. 9. Facilitates provider meetings of problem identification and patient care protocol review. 10. Provides consultation to others to interpret findings and assists in determining nature and extent of diagnosis 11. Provides comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services for patients. 12. Educates patients in the nature of health related conditions, recommended therapy, and the general promotion of health and the prevention of disease. 13. Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners for specialized treatment. 14. Records patient provider transactions in the EHR/RMPS system 15. Participates in clinic committees as assigned by the Service Unit Director.
Qualifications: 1. Must have obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree at an approved school of medicine to include the successful completion of postgraduate training in an approved residency program. 2. Must be currently licensed to practice as a physician and willing to obtain a license to practice as a physician in the State of Nebraska. 3. Current BLS & CPR certification is required.
