Perioperative Clinical Nurse - PACU

Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide primary training and continuing education for employees in the operating room, sterile processing department, short stay surgery, post anesthesia care unit. Assists supervisory clinical nurses and lead clinical nurses in planning and providing in-service programs for the units. Identifies need for in-service specific to unit and facilitates staff attendance at unit programs. The Perioperative Nurse Specialist will provide direct OR nursing care when required to optimize workflow.
Duties: 1. Develops annual educational objectives and programs to meet educational needs and regulatory requirements as defined by the units, departments, division and hospital. 2. Schedules education programs at times to meet staff needs. 3. Prepares reports, maintain records, maintains educational records for orientation, mandatory programs, in-services and continuing education programs. 4. Manages credentialing process of staff to ensure completion. 5. Serves as a resource/educational consultant to assigned personnel. 6. Acts as role model to convey professional nurse performance and attitude. 7. Maintains skill and competency by performing direct patient care and meets all responsibilities as outlined in the Clinical Nurse (Operating Room) job description. 8. Identifies, plans and implements cross-training strategies. 9. Develops, maintains a written progressive orientation program that incorporates AORN, AAMI and AAACN standards, JCAHO guidelines and corporate requirements for new staff. 10. Meets with orientees at regular intervals to evaluate orientation program. 11. Develops, implements, maintains a preceptor training program to provide supervision, support and teaching of orientees. 12. Reviews and interprets surgical services policies and procedures with orientees. 13. Will take operating room call as assigned by immediate supervisor. 14. All other tasks/duties assigned.
Qualifications: Education: A valid, current, full and unrestricted Professional Nursing License to practice nursing in any state of the United States of America, The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. BLS and ACLS Certification Required. CNOR Certification in Perioperative Nursing Experience: ? Must have at least four (4) years experience in operating room clinical nursing during the last six (6) years. ? Must have at least six (6) months of verifiable experience in providing orientation, educational programs or on the job training to OR staff members. ? Computer literacy at the intermediate level is beneficial. Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas: ? Positive working relationships with others ? Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints ? Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences.
