Provides quality care nursing to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Tends to the residents needs while following the resident's care plan in implementing specific procedures and treatments to programs and coordinates work with team members. Reports pertinent information to the licensed nurse. Assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations. Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with residents, residents' families, visitors and staff. Reports directly to the Long Term Care Director of Nursing or designee.
Duties: • Provides quality nursing care to residents in an environment which promotes resident rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and their individuality while providing individualized attention and encouraging residents to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. • Understands and ensures care plans are followed and providing the charge nurse or other care planning staff with specific information, changes and observations of the residents' needs and preferences. • Attends to the individual needs of residents including assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, skin integrity, or other needs in keeping with the individuals' care requirements and plan of care. • Provides care that maintains each resident's skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damaged by changing incontinent residents, turning, repositioning immobile residents, and applying moisturizers to fragile skin. • Performs various tasks assigned by the charge nurse including vital signs, residents' weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, as well as lifting, moving, and transporting clients, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention. • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the resident, visitors, family's peers, and supervisors. • Cooperates and works together with all co-workers, planning and completing job duties with minimal supervisory direction, utilizing appropriate judgment. • Recognizes, respects, and promotes the integration of traditional native values and customs into daily care and routines of the resident.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Must 1.) Hold current Certified Nurse's Aide certificate and have graduated from an accredited CNA course or 2.) Have graduated from an accredited CNA course and must be able to attain certification within 120 days of employment. Must obtain and maintain CPR certification. Must complete the food handler course upon hire. Three (3) months prior nursing aide experience preferred. Must be free from active tuberculosis. Must provide a criminal history statement and fingerprints, which show there is no history of crimes that would pose a current danger to residents. Ability to work rotating shifts required. Knowledge of Inupiaq language and culture preferred. Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds. Will be able to demonstrate ability to follow oral and written instructions.
