Performs professional nursing duties in the care of adult and pediatric patients in medical/surgical, pediatric, obstetric, ambulatory and emergency room settings in the hospital and during medical evacuation situations.
Duties: 1. Initiates and utilizes the nursing process to meet the holistic needs of the patient and family while adhering to the professional standards set forth by American Nurses' Association. 2. Observes the patients clinical condition: recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious and/or emergent situations while initiating appropriate nursing interventions. 3. Develops and implements patient/family teaching programs base on mutually identified health care goals. 4. Documents all observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered, and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines. 5. Evaluates the patient's plan of care and revises plan as needed. 6. Safeguards the patient's right to privacy by judiciously protecting information of a confidential manner. 7. Understands the developmental needs of all patients throughout the continuum of life; is able to adjust care to these needs; and documentation reflects this understanding. 8. Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual nursing judgments and actions. 9. Provides guidance and leadership to other personnel in the form of in-service and orientation/preceptorship and participates in committee activities. 10. Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement activities. 11. Utilizes incident and medication error reporting protocols per MHC policies. 12. Participates in continuing education activities. 13. Facilitates patient care across multiple disciplines, departments, and other non-MHC agencies through referrals and other business operations. 14. Performs daily S[INVALID] tasks and records in system as assigned. Performs daily/weekly controls for laboratory testing. 15. Schedules or assignments may be changed to meet the needs of the department. 16. Provides guidance to support staff to include PCTs, CMAs, and AA. Assists providers as needed.
Qualifications: Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing from an Accredited College. Must have RN license in good standing and be eligible to apply for an Alaska licensure as a Registered Nurse. ACLS and PALS preferred; must be willing to get ACLS and PALS training within 6 months of hire. Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and spend long periods of time standing or walking. May be exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous materials. Must be able to pass the annual core competencies assigned to the unit.
