Nurse Anesthetist opportunity in Northeastern Arizona. Beyond the city, bona-fide treasures of panoramic delights await you in Fort Defiance, Arizona! Tséhootsooí Medical Center is the primary hospital for Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board's healthcare delivery system. Accredited by CMS, TMC provides general outpatient and inpatient healthcare to 16 surrounding communities. TMC also provides same-day surgery, a diagnostic center, a growing network of primary care and ancillary services.
Duties: The purpose of this position is to serve as a Nurse Anesthetist for operations and other therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Assesses the patients' preoperative physical status by evaluation of clinical history, physical examination and laboratory and other para-clinical studies as to determine the degree of risk involved in the planned procedures. Accordingly chooses the anesthetic technique and agents and plans the anesthetic management to suit the patient's condition, wishes and the surgical demands. Interviews the patients to further evaluate their physical status, discuss the type of anesthesia and reassures the patients. Selects and orders preoperative medication. Induces, maintains and manages general anesthesia by rectal, parenteral or inhalation routes, with or without endotracheal intubation. Performs regional anesthesia. Monitors and supports vital functions. Assists the obstetrician by providing anesthesia for patients in labor, while maintaining the wellbeing of the fetus. Facilitates the surgeon's task by means of muscle relaxation, hyperventilation and other special techniques. Sees that the patient regains control of own vital functions at the end of the procedure by reversing drugs with the adequate antagonist, facilitating the elimination of gaseous or volatile agents and other accepted procedures. Participates in the immediate post-anesthetic care, especially in maintaining adequate airway, ventilation and oxygenation during this critical period. Follows up patients in the post-operative period for post-anesthetic complications. Participates in the evaluation and management of respiratory problems in the critical care areas and emergencies. Provides standard anesthesia care to patients of all age groups. Participates in the retrospective evaluation of the quality of anesthesia care through the Peer Review process of the Medical staff. Maintains patient care and Anesthesia Department documentation of practice standards of the Health Care Finance Administration/Joint Commission, the Hospital and of professional licensing organizations. In order to maintain certification, must: participate in a minimum of 40 hours of approved continuing education every two (2) years, maintain a substantial anesthesia practice and maintain a current state license. Performs other duties as assigned, including on-call assignments.
Qualifications: EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: • Completion of an American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) accredited program. • Active National Board Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (NBCRNA) Certification. • Active, unrestricted Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist license in any U.S. State or Territory. Knowledge and understanding of the physiology, both normal and altered, that will enable the anesthetist to monitor closely all vital functions and rapidly diagnose and correct any potentially dangerous deviation. Knowledge of pharmacology of anesthetic agents (local and general), muscle relaxants, and all other drugs part of the anesthetic armamentarium, and basic knowledge of the ways in which any other drug will modify the patient's response to surgery and anesthesia. Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system necessary for the administration of inhalation agents, performing endotracheal intubation and use of controlled ventilation. Knowledge of surgical technique that will enable the anesthetist to anticipate the surgeon's needs and modify the patient's condition accordingly. Knowledge of microbiology and sterilization and aseptic techniques necessary to fulfill the anesthetist's role in infection control. Meets the criteria for Credentialing and Privileging in accordance to the FDIHB Medical Staff Bylaws. A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
