Summary: Open Until Filled position.

The purpose of this position is to provide skilled professional nursing services in an outpatient ambulatory clinic.
Duties: Works independently on special projects related to patient care procedures. • Serves as patient advocate by assisting patients with information needed to make their health care decisions, implements health care plans and seeks medical assistance. • Maintains professional licensures and competence through participation in education relative to ambulatory nursing practices and maintaining annual competency documentation. • Participates in CE programs containing moral, ethical and legal issues. • Participates in mandatory in-services related to CPR, Infection Control; Blood Borne Pathogens, ATP proficiency etc. • Uses nursing processes to determine delivery of nursing services in accordance with departmental practices. • Observes and accesses patient condition with consideration for age specific attributes (i.e. infants, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric) and discusses significant changes with attending Physicians and/or Mid-Levels. Records initial assessment data in the automated Electronic Health Record system. • Prioritizes care needs to presenting complaint, follows Health Promotion Disease Prevention guidelines and standards for specific groups, such as diabetes, hypertension and other chronic groups. • Facilitates continuity of care involving the patient and family in the development of the plan for ongoing care. • Performs patient and family education based on established standards as required by age of patient based on patient preferred learning style, and documents education in Electronic Health Records (EHR); utilizing an interpreter as necessary. • Utilizes the health summary in planning individual visits. • Carries out Physicians and/or Mid-Levels' orders including the administration of prescribed drugs by topical, oral, rectal and parenteral routes and other therapeutic measures such as oxygen, intravenous fluids and blood transfusions. • Operates a wide variety of therapeutic devices such as drainage, feeding and suction tubes and machines, nebulizers, electrocardiograph machines etc. • Measures and documents in EHR vital signs, heights, and weights, neurological status, effects of medication, medication allergies, visual acuity and hearing as indicated or prescribed. • Using standard precautions and personal protective equipment, collects or assists in collection of various specimens such as urine, sputum, stool blood, etc. Obtains test results according to ancillary testing policies and procedures. • Assists the Physicians, Mid-Levels, and/or his or her Medical Assistant, in the performance of diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. • Assists with the stabilization of emergency patients and preparation of patients for transport to higher care level facility. REGISTERED NURSE Position Description Page 3 of 5 • Recognizes adverse reaction to medication, transfusions, treatments and procedures and instigates appropriate interventions or actions. • Recognizes cardio respiratory arrest and other emergency conditions, initiates and maintains resuscitation where appropriate. • Recognizes the dignity or worth of individuals, respects cultural, spiritual and psychosocial differences and apply philosophical and ethical concepts that promotes equality and continuity of care. • Follows established procedures/guidelines for maintenance of storage of supplies and equipment. • Checks, at regular intervals, emergency drugs, equipment and supplies to assure they are current and adequate to meet the needs of the patient population. • Assumes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Experience: Two years nursing experience in an outpatient ambulatory setting. Education: Current and Unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the State of New Mexico or multi-state license privilege as provided in the Nurse Licensure Compact. An Associate or Bachelor Degree in Nursing from an accredited professional education program accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Stipulation for Associate Degree applicants: Must successfully attain a Bachelor Degree in Nursing from an accredited professional education program accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), within five (5) years from date of hire. Certification: Must have CPR and/or ACLS certification. Current and valid Wound Care Certification OR the ability and commitment to attain a Current and valid Wound Care Certification.
