Lead Clinical Nurse - ICU

Summary: In consultation with the Supervisory Clinical Nurse (SCN), the Lead Clinical Nurse (LCN) will implement work systems that assure the optimal use of all assets, staff and equipment. The LCN evaluates the Nursing needs of patients, develops a plan of nursing care, initiates patient care assignments, implements and modifies them as needed. In addition, assists, providing or directing the provision of comprehensive Nursing care, delegates' duties to appropriate personnel, teaches, precepts and supervises work as needed. Participates in the evaluation of the overall quality of patient care delivered. Serves as the Acting SCN in the absence of the SCN.
Duties: 1. Responsible for providing direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under the supervision of the nursing staff and/or nursing department supervisor. Responsible for assisting nursing staff to create, maintain and provide a safe environment. 2. Provides guidance to other ICU Nurses, and health care providers including temporary intermittent personnel as requested or deemed necessary, which includes precepting and helping to mentor new staff/contractors. Train or arrange for the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building, working in teams to accomplish tasks or projects, and provide or arrange for specific administrative or technical training as necessary. 3. Areas supervised includes any section of an assigned department providing care. Coordinates admissions, discharges, and transfers according to ICU policy. Manage leave and staffing schedules. Resolves simple, informal complaints of staff and refer others, such as formal grievances and appeals, to the Supervisor or an appropriate management official. Informs Supervisor of performance management issues/problems and to recommend/request related actions. 4. Assists in ensuring that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services. Articulate and communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review and deadlines and time frames for completion. 5. Coach, leads, and mentors the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures and assist the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. 6. Identifies, distributes and balances workload and tasks among staff in accordance with established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization; makes adjustments to the workload in accordance to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned tasks; and ensuring that each staff has an integral role in developing the final team product. 7. Monitor and report on the status and progress of work; also reviews completed work. Prepares reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information; prepares, presents and communicates PI reports, patient/staff reports, chart reviews, and other reports as assigned to the Supervisor. 8. Represent the team in dealings with the Supervisor for the purpose of obtaining resources and securing needed information or decisions from the Supervisor on major work problems and issues that arise. Communicate team consensus and recommendations to the Supervisor on actions affecting team and individual awards, rewards and recognition. 9. Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in department specific nursing knowledge and practice through continuing education. Will make every effort to have positive relationships with the ICU staff and to lead the staff by exemplifying teamwork within the department. Will adhere to TCHRCC mission, goals and policies. 10. Works cohesively with the SCN in evaluating applicants for hire either contract or direct hire/commissioned officers. 11. Responsible for electronic health records data entry pertinent to patient service role. 12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education: • Associate's Degree in Nursing • A valid, current, full and unrestricted Professional Nursing License to practice nursing in any state of the United States of America, The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States Experience: • Must have three (3) years of nursing experience in an Intensive Care Unit • Must have one (1) year Charge nurse experience Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas: • Positive working relationships with others • Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints • Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences • Ability to comprehend and interpret written material, communicate effectively via telephone, written or electronic media or in person • Ability to plan and organize work and work independently with minimal supervision • Must maintain and have a current valid ACLS and BLS Certification throughout employment • Must maintain and have a current valid PALS and TNCC certification throughout employment, if none, must be obtained within six months from date of hire • Complete Patient Sitter Competency Training (upon hire) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience: • Four (4) years of ICU/Critical Care Nurse experience within the last six years • Two (2) years charge Nurse Experience preferred Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to speak Navajo
