| Summary: | Wind River Family & Community Health Care is seeking applicants for the position of Optometrist. Wind River Family & Community Health Care provides ambulatory health care for the service population of the Wind River Reservation. The Optometrist serves as a member of the Clinical Care l team in the clinic the Wind River Family & Community Health Care Center, located in Arapahoe, Wyoming, and is under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director. The clinic is located on the Wind River Indian Reservation in west central Wyoming, adjacent to the beautiful Wind River Mountains. The rich cultural heritage of the Northern Arapaho Tribe contributes to the overall satisfaction of providing health care services to a vibrant, dynamic population. Hiking, climbing, fishing, hunting and all outdoor activities are readily available in this area, and we are a short two hour drive to the resort town of Jackson Hole, where world class skiing can be found. The yearly income, like other elements of the compensation package is entirely negotiable. IHS, Civil Service and Commissioned Corps Officers are welcomed and encouraged to apply. Other elements could include a moving allowance for the provider, or a signing bonus. We can provide a site visit and compensation for the visit. We do participate in loan repayment programs, and we contribute to your continuing education. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8a-5p, unless otherwise negotiated, with no nights, weekends or on call, with all Federal holidays off. Health insurance and a generous 401(k) package is available. Additional clinics are currently being planned, making this a chance to become established in a growing, healthy organization. The Optometrist provides outpatient care in a clinic setting. The successful candidate will examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, etc. Treat visual disorders through prescription of corrective lenses such as glasses, contact lenses or low vision aids, vision therapy, and pharmacological means; treats unusual visual disorders through application of advanced optometric techniques; consult and refer patients to other health care practitioners if additional treatment is necessary. Provides vision and eye care education and counseling to patients, and records all patient care and procedures in health record. Participates in organizational meetings to develop new, modify existing and evaluate medical procedures relative to patient care with the objective of constantly improving and increasing the degree of patient care given to clients. The clinic is equipped with a Cirrus Photo OCT, visual field analyser, autorefractor/keratometer, pachymeter, and noncontact tonometer. The optometry department has an excellent working relationship with local ophthalmologists and will utilize their services through direct referral. Supervisory Responsibilities: The provider will provide professional supervision or provide some direction of any ancillary optometry staff, including reception and possibly techs. Must demonstrate leadership in the work environment; promote harmony and excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned. |
| Duties: | The successful applicant must have a demonstrated ability to perform processes in the delivery of care to specific age groups. Must possess a theoretical and practical knowledge of optometry. Ability to interact well with other staff and patients, including those of other cultural backgrounds. Must have the ability and willingness to make appropriate referrals to other specialists or services. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, following appropriate lines of authority (chain of command). Communicates well with patients, families and team members to ensure the occurrence of effective therapeutic interventions, and to ensure safe patient care. |
| Qualifications: | Knowledge Required: Education: A Doctor of Optometry (OD) from a school accredited by the Council on Optometric Education. Certificates, licenses, registrations: Must possess a permanent, current, full and unrestricted license to practice optometry in the United States. Personal Attributes: The incumbent must maintain strict confidentiality and high ethical standards in performing the position. The incumbent needs to be respectful, possess cultural awareness and sensitivity, be flexible, and demonstrate sound work ethics. |
