Summary: The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is in the process of assuming management responsibility for the Indian Health Service Hospital in Winnebago, Nebraska on July 1, 2018. This is being done under the auspices of Public Law 93-638, the Indian Self-Determination and Educational Assistance Act. Acting under the authority of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska the WCHS will be responsible for the day to day operation and management of the Hospital and its associated programs. The Hospital is a 13 bed inpatient facility that includes an Ambulatory Care Clinic, Pharmacy, Medical laboratory, Radiology, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Dental Clinic, Behavioral Health, Public Health Nursing, Optometry, Social Service and other ancillary programs. The Service population is approximately 10,000 users.

The Emergency Room physician will work in the Emergency Room of the WCHS Hospital and provide clinical diagnostic services and take action to appropriately treat the medical condition of the patient in a timely manner. The Emergency Room is staffed 24 hours a day seven days a week and has a Physician on duty in the hospital at all times. The typical shift is 12 hours in length. This is a Tribal direct hire for permanent Full-Time Physician for the Emergency Room.
Duties: Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska's Human Resources core mission, vision, and values. Serves as Staff Physician in the Emergency Department of the WCHS Hospital. Provides the full range of urgent and emergent medical care services to any and all patients with very little or no technical guidance. Provides direct medical services including diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services. Complexity of care includes intubations and management of difficult airways, management of trauma including fractures of multiple extremities, stab wounds, open wounds of chest and abdomen, concussion, head trauma, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, suicide attempts, etc. Clear, accurate, and adequate clinical records are kept current and completed at time of discharge. The treatment plan is clearly stated. The physician is fully knowledgeable of and utilizes the RPMS. All progress notes/orders are to be completed and signed daily. The incumbent is responsive and prompt in recognizing emergency situations as well as taking timely necessary actions. Develops and maintains rapport of patients as well as fosters confidence through competence and interpersonal skills to the end that patients and others are informed participants in the treatment effort. Provides medical referrals to private sector hospitals, providers, and specialists if services are not available at the facility. Serves as a member of the organized Medical Staff and adheres to Medical Staff bylaws. Will participate in the performance improvement activities coordinated with the PI programs and ensures subordinate departments are in compliance with CMS, EMTALA, and hospital standards. Assures preparation of timely medical records and that all notes are submitted, complete, and accurate to provide comprehensive medical care. Respects tribal/cultural traditions and practices. Adheres to and upholds HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications: Completed an Emergency Residency Program in Emergency Medicine or have significant Emergency Medicine experience (3) years if a non-Emergency Medicine Residency was completed. Must have completed a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States approved by a recognizing body in the year of the applicants graduation, or a Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a foreign medical school which provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the Unites States. All foreign medical school graduates must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medial Graduates (ECFMG) or a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country. Residency must be completed and either be Board Certified or Board Eligible. Must have certification of ACLS, PALS and BLS.
