Diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases and promote and maintain health of the Pokagon Band community in general clinical practice, primarily at the Pokagon Band Health Services clinic. Oversee the medical aspect of the midlevel providers and work with the Director of Health Services and Medical Director to improve the medical care aspect of the clinic.
Duties: Essential Functions: • Establish compassionate, therapeutic clinical environment and embrace integrated holistic health care as practiced throughout the Health Services Department. • Provide individualized and culturally appropriate medical support to individual clients, families and the community. • Assess patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. • Determine abnormal conditions and health status by administering and ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms and laboratory studies; interpret test results. • Administer and prescribe treatments and medications. • Instruct and counsel patients by describing therapeutic regimens, providing normal growth and development information, discussing family planning and reproductive health, and providing counseling on emotional problems. • Refer patients to specialists when needed for further diagnosis or treatment • Advise patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for disease prevention. • Documents patient care by charting in EMR and other applicable medical record keeping systems. • Participate in interdisciplinary health care teams as assigned . • Refers patients to other Pokagon Band Health care team members and medical specialists for services when necessary. • Maintain continuity of care with area hospital, communicate with and review pertinent records from hospitalists and other physicians and specialists associated with client care. • Work collaboratively with other health care providers within the Department of Health Services. • Comply with applicable federal, state, local, and Band legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions. • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educations workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. • Assist with addressing complaints, resolving problems, and exploring and implementing new or improved methods and procedures for improving workflow and service to Tribal Citizens. • Attend department meetings, as scheduled. • Periodic chart review of other PHS providers.
Qualifications: Position Requirements: • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of Michigan and Indiana, or must achieve licensure in Michigan and Indiana by endorsement within one month of employment with the Band. Must have successfully completed graduate medical education at an accredited medical school, successfully completed a standardized examination (usually the United States Medical Licensing Examination), completed residency training at an accredited program (ACGME, AOA or an equivalent organization), and licensing board investigation of the applicant's criminal history and character profile. • Ability to alleviate stress and anxiety and be supportive of persons and work tactfully, collaboratively, diplomatically and with highest level of confidentiality required. • Must pass credentials check and verification and National Practitioner's Databank inquiry. • Board certified in family medicine. • Experience working with Native American communities preferred. • Proficiency with MS Office Applications preferred.
