This position performs the duties of a Staff Physician responsible for comprehensive health and medical care services to chronic and same-day visit patients in a primary care setting. Duties: Assumes responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, maintenance therapy and rehabilitation of patients within a primary care setting. Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, performs history and physical; requests and/or performs and follows-up with diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to patient. Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes, provides treatment, and arranges for specialized care, patient referrals, or transfers to a higher level of care as required. Bases decisions upon information obtained, professional medical knowledge and skills and prescribed policies and procedures. Makes notes of observations to be incorporated into clinical records. Provides definitive management in all medical categories or cases that do not require referral. Provides total patient care including preventing health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow up services to patients. Conducts outpatient clinics makes observations appropriate to the patient's underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patient's medications, diet, therapy course, adherence to management plan and patient observations. Modifies regimen as indicated. Instructs and counsels patients and family members as required. Participates in the consultation with hospitalist/emergency department staff regarding inpatient admissions. Provides assistance to emergency staff in cases of multiple patient casualties. Makes appropriate referrals and obtains appropriate consultation after primary evaluation and documentation has been completed. Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Dictates clinical report summaries and correspondence concerning patients under their care in a timely manner (daily completion of inpatient progress notes). Required to work in a courteous and professional manner with all hospital staff and colleagues. Works closely with other health professionals to utilize and coordinate services in the management of the family's medical, psychological and social problems. Assumes appropriate administrative duties as assigned. Responsible for medical student, interns, or residents assigned for training in in this specialty. Refers patients to appropriate contracted medical facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at local medical facilities. Coordinates and integrates information and assures the provision of timely follow up care as required. Assumes responsibility for medical student, interns, or residents assigned for training in this specialty. Serves as a consultant to other physicians regarding complicated internal medicine/intensive care unit patients and/or obstetric patients and/or pediatric patients based on specialty training. Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) review processes. Works under the Chief and Deputy Chief of Family Practice who provide general professional and administrative supervision. Works with considerable independence during course of patient care. May work on a regularly assigned, rotation or call back basis to provide continuity of medical services during evenings, nights holidays, and weekends as needed. Assists with patient care at Nahata'Dziil Health Center as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: EXPERIENCE: No additional experience required outside of a completed training program as identified in the education qualifications listed below. EDUCATION: Completion of an accredited Medical School Program. Completion of an accredited Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Residency Program. Board Eligible or Board Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Board of Internal Medicine. Active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S State or Territory. MANDATORY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent customer service skills. Knowledge in providing primary care include providing comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services for patients based on specialty training. Ability to complete full range assignments of patients and their problems and recognize difficult-to-identify symptoms or signs in the field of Family Medicine/Internal Medicine. Ability to perform a full range of emergency services or crisis intervention including lifesaving emergency procedures in order to stabilize a patient sufficiently until a higher level of care is available. Ability to be responsible for developing a full treatment regimen for patients with ongoing continued education in order to provide the most up to date medical care. Ability to expedite a patient's referral to other facilities for specialized care. Ability to perform medically related or patient care assignments that fall outside the designated area of specializing or experience. Ability to work as a team member and develop productive and cooperative working relationships with all members of the health care team. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Competent in the use of an Electronic Health Record (EHR). Ability to meet the criteria for Credentialing and Privileging in accordance with the FDIHB Medical Staff Bylaws. A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
