The Clinic Physician will provide primary health care services and assure that the clinic's medical services are in full compliance with standards, ethics and license requirements of the medical profession. Location: NARA's Wellness Center, 12360 E Burnside, Portland, OR 97233 Wage: TBD, based on experience, education, and internal equity. *It is not $1-1,000,000 per year. Duties: • Assist the Medical Director to ensure that the NARA Indian Health Clinic's medical services are in full compliance with standards, ethics and license requirements of the medical profession. This may include supervision of medical students, coordination of locum tenens physicians, contractual physicians, and development of linkages with non-allopathic health care providers such as naturopathic doctors, acupuncturists or herbalists. • Engage in collegial consultative relationship with NARA's Nurse Practitioners, other physicians, mental health practitioners, registered nurses, dieticians, Residential Treatment Center staff, and Outpatient Treatment Center staff. • Participate as a member of the clinic's management team. • Establish consultative referrals network and coordinate linkages with contractual pharmacy, hospital-based admitting physicians, and reference labs. • Provide comprehensive primary health care services defined as holistic health care which the client receives at the first point of contact with the health care system and in continuous and comprehensive and included the following; health promotion; prevention of disease and disability; health maintenance; rehabilitation; identification, diagnosis and management of health problems; and referral to other providers as appropriate. (Oregon Revised Statutes, Chapter 678, Division 50) • Provide clinical treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and minor injuries. • Treat superficial lesions such as warts, cysts, minor lacerations, abrasions, minor first and second-degree bums within the physician's scope of practice. • Treat minor injuries such as strains, sprains, and non-complicating extremity fractures and dislocations within the physician's scope of practice. • Evaluate medical histories and perform routine health maintenance examinations for children and adults within the physician's scope of practice. • Counsel and instruct patients in health maintenance problems such as: 1) nutrition, diet and weight reduction; 2) risk factor prevention and modification (chemical addictions including alcohol, tobacco and drugs); 3) mental health referrals; 4) self care measures for health maintenance; 5) family planning. • Coordinate the care the patient receives from other providers and agencies and advocates for the patient within the health care system. • Develop and document plan of care and outcomes evaluation in a timely fashion. • Review medical histories and make referrals to other agencies and providers as appropriate. • Maintain commitment to providing culturally-sensitive care. • Provide health education to individual patients or groups as needed. • Provide staff development education as requested by the Clinic Director. • Engage in ongoing education and specialized training offered by Indian Health Service in order to maintain a high quality of care to the clinic's patient population. • Attend monthly staff meetings. • Comply with productivity standards as outlined in the attached document. • Participate in after hours call coverage with other providers on a weekly rotating basis. • Document patient care legibly and appropriately within medical standards of care. • Notify Human Resources regarding any chances in state licensure, DEA licensure, board certification, Medicare provider status; send updated copies of licenses to human resources. • Participate in periodic peer review of patient charts. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Practice. • Oregon Medical License or ability to obtain one. • Current CPR card. • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, the community, and other staff members. • Work collaboratively with clients, other NARA staff, team members, and to treat everyone with respect and dignity at all times. • Experience working within the Native American/Alaska Native community is considered a plus. • If in recovery, must have a minimum of two years sobriety/clean time. • Ability to pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests. • Ability to pass criminal background and DMV checks.
