Formed in 1973, the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC) began managing and operating Kanakanak Hospital and the Bristol Bay Service Unit for the Indian Health Service in 1980 in Dillingham, Alaska.
Offering primary care, Dental, Environmental Health, and Behavioral Health Services throughout the Bristol Bay Region, is the primary health provider for 28 villages in the region.
Responsible for health services in 21 village clinics ranging over a 30,000 square mile region and employs approximately 400 - includes village based employees
Accredited by The Joint Commission, which includes Behavioral Health Care and Critical Access Hospital, Lab accredited by the Collage of American Pathologists, Mammography accredited by the American College of Radiology

Duties: | Diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system. Examine eyes and visual system, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment. Prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions. Determine each patient's visual acuity, field of vision and hand-eye coordination. Advise patients about proper eye hygiene and care. Evaluate patients for the presence of diseases such as diabetes and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed. ** Please log on to the BBAHC website to view full job description. ** |
Qualifications: | Education/licensure/certification: Must have a Doctor of Optometry from an accredited college and be Nationally Certified and licensed by the State of Alaska to practice optometry, including a diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical endorsement. Must receive State of Alaska licensure within one year of hire and maintain unrestricted Alaska licensure continuously thereafter. Experience: Three years of experience as Optometrist desired. Contact lens training and work experience background. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span (e.g., pediatric/adult/geriatric) and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned unit's procedures. |
