The Division of Patient Safety and Clinical Risk Management (DPSCRM) develops and implements programs to promote patient safety and reduce adverse events through technological innovation, attention to detail and implementation of high-reliability, quality improvement science.

Infection Control

The Office of Quality has developed the Indian Health Manual Infection Control Policy, Chapter 33.

IHS has also worked with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to implement standards for infection prevention and control by providing overall education and walk-throughs within facilities to pinpoint infection prevention and control high-risk areas.

IHS Safety Tracking & Response (I-STAR) System

The IHS Safety Tracking & Response (I-STAR) System provides a web-based application for adverse event reporting for our Agency. This software, built upon the RLDatix platform, has been customized to allow IHS to have a single portal for reporting patient/visitor, medication and occupational safety events with enhanced data analytics. The application and training supports are housed on the IHS intranet at home.ihs.gov/i-star/.
