The IHS Supplemental Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)

While the IHS Loan Repayment Program is a great incentive for clinicians to consider careers in Indian health, the reality is that the demand for LRP contracts consistently exceeds the capacity to award all program applicants. The Supplemental Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) has assisted several facilities with the recruitment and retention of much-needed health care professionals and has helped close the gap between the amount of funding authorized by Congress and the actual cost to fund clinician contracts.

Here’s how the SLRP works: IHS facilities and Area offices identify a vacancy in a priority health discipline and inform the IHS LRP office of their interest in funding an IHS SLRP recipient (up to $35,000 a year). Interested clinicians submit an IHS LRP application; the LRP office manages payments to the SLRP recipient. To learn more about the SLRP, visit the LRP website, contact the LRP Branch Chief click here or call: (301) 443-3396.

DHPS Fulfillment Center

Be sure to visit the DHPS Fulfillment Center to order IHS program materials at no cost. The Fulfillment Center is a recruiter’s resource for informative, up-to-date LRP, Scholarship, Recruitment and Retention materials available to order in print. Some materials are available electronically on the Retention website as well. To access a list of materials and to order, click here. Contact the administrator for a username and password if you do not have one already.
