Bemidji Area 2009-2014
Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa
The Fond du Lac MSPI project aims to provide methamphetamine prevention and treatment in the Fond du Lac service area through health services, research, and education. Services provide an integrated, whole-person approach to recovery, incorporating the Ojibway language, cultural activities, and community into the recovery process. The project also supports a number of youth and family programs aimed at strengthening youth and families while building protective factors against depression, suicide, and drug abuse.
White Earth Band
The White Earth MSPI project, Native Alive, addresses suicide through education and increases access to mental health services. The project has introduced suicide prevention curriculum in local schools and provides Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) events to the community. In order to improve access to services, the project has stationed mental health professionals at reservation schools and maintains a suicide support hotline staffed by local health professionals trained in safeTALK and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
