IHS Dental Impressions
A Unique Place to Practice Dentistry

The Indian Health Service (IHS) Division of Oral Health (DOH) offers dentists and dental students an opportunity to practice dentistry in a unique environment. One that combines the experience of practicing in state-of-the art facilities with the opportunity, adventure and purpose that comes with serving Indian communities.

In this newsletter, read about new comprehensive materials available to dental extern candidates to familiarize themselves with the program, as well as market themselves to the site(s) they identify as a good match for them. We also introduce two externs who served at the Cherokee Indian Hospital in July 2014. Learn about their experience and how fulfilling an externship prepared them for their final year of dental school and the future. Also, learn how the financial freedom of loan repayment opportunities can help you as you move forward in your career.

Stay Informed with New Materials

IHS DOH strives to provide externship candidates with a comprehensive set of materials that clearly define program policies and participant expectations. With the creation of a Dental Externship Information Sheet, an updated Dental Externship Quick Reference Guide (QRG) and Dental Externship Site Profiles, we continue to update and add to the information available for externs to make educated decisions about program participation.
