DE0648: Interim Therapeutic Restorations
Interim Therapeutic Restoration [ITR] is a modified technique in which a handpiece is used, caries removal is obtained in full or in part, retention is obtained, and a glass ionomer restoration is placed which can be expected to be retained for a year or even much longer. The procedure helps dentists slow down and manage early childhood caries progression until the child is old enough to cooperate for routine care in the dental chair. The technique is helpful for children in areas where a visit to a pediatric dentist or an Operating Room procedure may not possible or practical.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. List the indications for the use of ITRs.
2. Describe the technique for placing ITRs.
3. Describe appropriate anticipatory guidance and consent procedures for the placement of ITRs.
