Summary:

The purpose of this course is to provide general dentists and their staff basic treatment techniques in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of ECC. Participants will understand clinical concepts of primary and secondary prevention in treating ECC. Fluoride varnish, oral hygiene, and ART will be taught.

This course is designed for a clinic that wants to implement caries management techniques as part of the overall care of your pediatric patients. It is done in your clinic to get buy-in from all providers of care and to give you hands-on training in your own setting. It is a course requested by the Chief Dental Officer for his/her clinic. The clinic will be responsible for arranging patients.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the role of fluorides in the prevention of ECC.
2. Develop a comprehensive ECC prevention program.
3. Treat caries with ART.
4. Be familiar with dental restorative materials and armamentarium for ART.
5. Be more confident with patient management and child-parent interactions.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
