Summary:

For over 30 years, the IHS, Division of Oral Health has operated the IHS Radiology Certification Program. This program initially was developed in response to PL 97-35 which states: "the evaluation shall be a criterion-referenced test designed to measure knowledge and functional capability essential for making diagnostically acceptable radiographic surveys with minimal risk to the patient and the operator." Over time, the Radiology Certification Program, has been integrated into the operations of a dental program to assure radiation safety for patients, operators, and co-workers. Additionally, it has become a component of a dental program's quality review system where the radiology competency of dental assistants are assessed and documented on an annual basis.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
1. State the purpose of the IHS Radiology Certification Program.
2. Explain the process of initial radiology certification and annual competency evaluation.
3. Navigate the IHS Dental Portal to be able to locate radiology resources, radiology certification test, and competency evaluation documentation.
4. List the advantages of using the IHS Radiology Certification Program.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
