DE0047: Dental Assisting and Office Personnel: Effective Oral Health Education, Customer Service Skills, and Clinical Updates
This didactic course is designed for assistants who will have the opportunity to learn about topics that are relevant to improving oral health of patients and to meet compliance with CDC infection control guidelines and IHS Radiology standards for quality radiographs.
The course content will include discussion of dental caries and periodontal health processes and the utilization of oral health aides to improve oral health status. Dental assistants will be involved with customizing home care instruction and improving the management of patients with autism or who use methamphetamine. The course will also present ways to improve skills to prevent radiology errors, and review infection control principles.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Increase awareness of dental caries and periodontal health processes and utilization of oral health aides to improve oral health status.
2. Discuss the emotional, physical, medical, and oral aspects of methamphetamine use and abuse.
3. Describe characteristics and how best to interact and treat patients with autism.
4. Recognize oral health to be an integral part of a person’s overall general health.
5. Prevent typical radiology errors through use of XCP instruments.
6. Apply CDC infection control guidelines

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
