Summary:

This two day meeting is a gathering of the Portland Area dentists and dental hygienists. Summaries are provided for each individual session.
Getting in Rhythm:
This session will provide a combination of lecture, discussion, and group work on ways to get the dental staff working together, appreciating each other, and focusing on a mission that will be drafted during a group exercise.

Basic Screening Survey:
This session will provide the results of the 2014 Basic Screening Survey of 1-5 Year olds.

Marketing Oral Health in AIAN Communities:
This session will provide a combination of lecture, discussion, and group work to brainstorm ways to market oral health in AIAN communities. Key messages will be identified.

Baby Teeth Matter: Final Data Results:
This session will provide data results, best practices, and next steps for the Baby Teeth Matter [ECC Prevention] Program currently ongoing in the Portland Area.

GPRA: Making It Count!
This session will provide information about the changes in dental GPRA reporting and progress to date.

Management of Medical Emergencies in Dental Office:
This session will provide an update on the management of medical emergencies in the dental office.

Baby Teeth Matter Meeting:
This 3 hour session will provide a combination of lecture and discussion to review the Baby Teeth Matter data, finalize the caries risk assessment/self-management goal setting tool, provide an overview of collaborations with medical staff to improve dental access, and setting quality improvement objectives for Phase II of Baby Teeth Matter Program.

Learning Objectives:

Objectives are provided for each individual session.

Getting in Rhythm:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1. List three ways to improve dental staff morale and focus.
2. Produce a draft of a dental program mission statement.

Basic Screening Survey:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1. Describe the prevalence of decay experience and untreated decay for 1-5 year olds nationally.
2. Describe the prevalence of decay experience and untreated decay for 1-5 year olds in the Portland Area.

Marketing Oral Health in AIAN Communities:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1. List three key oral health messages for their community.
2. Describe a marketing strategy to improve oral health in their community.

Baby Teeth Matter: Final Data Results
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1. List one strategy to increase dental access for 0-2 year olds.
2. List one strategy to maintain young children in your dental program, avoiding private pediatric referrals for dental treatment under general anesthesia.

GPRA: Making It Count!
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1. List the dental GPRA objectives.
2. Describe GPRA progress to date in the Portland Area.

Management of Medical Emergencies in Dental Office:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1. List 2-3 conditions from the patients medical history that might the staff of the potential for a medical emergency during dental treatment.
2. List the initial steps you would take for most medical emergencies.

Baby Teeth Matter Meeting:
Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the Baby Teeth Matter outcomes.
2. Finalize the handout for caries risk assessment/motivational interviewing.
3. List at least one opportunity and one barrier to collaborating with medical staff.
4. Identify 2-3 PDSAs for future quality improvement and program planning.

Tuition Payment Information:

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
