Summary:

THIS IS A COURSE FROM 2014 AND IS CDE CREDIT IS OPEN ONLY TO THOSE WHO TOOK IT IN 2014.

This course, previously approved by the Clinical Support Center, provides a brief review of the functions of the kidneys, discussion of identification and monitoring of chronic kidney disease [CKD], and describes steps for dietary intervention in CKD. In addition, nutrient profiles of the food groups will be reviewed. Tools from the National Kidney Disease Education Program that can be used to enhance patient education will also be shared.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the dynamics of ABCs and use of additional guidelines for identifying and monitoring CKD;
2. Use tools from the National Kidney Disease Education Program to enhance patient education; and
3. Implement the five steps for eating right for kidney health in counseling CKD patients and their families.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
