Summary:

This course is designed for professionals needing training on how to recognize suicide risk and refer to the appropriate resources for additional help. This course also includes how to reduce imminent risk of harm by moving access to a means for suicide. There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, participants are expected to come ready to learn, participate, and demonstrate their newly acquired skills. Topics covered include the scope of the problem of suicide via data, risk and protective factors for suicide, symptoms of depression, warning signs for suicide, screening and intervention steps in the case of a crisis including means safety and the PHQ-9, local and national resources and how to utilize them, and practice. All sections of the training must be attended in order to receive a certificate of completion.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.   -Recognize at least five warning signs for suicide.
2.   -Be familiar with the PHQ-9 and how to utilize it.
3.   -Know the steps of how to help someone in crisis: engage, ask, stay, remove and connect.

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
