Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) Updates

The RPMS will require updates to many modules in order to make the change from ICD-9 to ICD-10. Since the mapping of provider-entered diagnoses to ICD-10 codes will happen in the background, there is expected to be little disruption for the providers. On October 1, 2015, the codes on bills will change from ICD-9 to ICD-10. The change will be felt most by coders and billers. Queries to providers may increase if clinical documentation does not support the granularity required of ICD-10; however, it is expected that the SNOMED CT™ codes that the providers use in the Certified 2014 Electronic Health Record along with the "Map Advice" for coders will help ease the transition to ICD-10.

The timely installation of RPMS patches and version releases is critical to the implementation of ICD-10. Begin today to ensure that RPMS servers are up-to-date with the latest patches found on the RPMS Web site [PDF].

The entire complement of patches necessary for the Certified 2014 EHR are a prerequisite for ICD-10. The Meaningful Use Web site lists the patches.

A presentation prepared by Jeanette Kompkoff, Acting RPMS Investment Manager, outlines the RPMS patches, steps sites can take to prepare and offer suggestions for a smooth transition for both Meaningful Use Stage 2 and ICD-10.
