Summary: This position is with the Osage tribe at the Wah-Zha-Zhi Health Center in Pawhuska, OK. OSAGEVETERANINDIAN PREFERENCE IS CONSIDERED. Verification of preference must be included with application. A copy of the candidate’s OSAGE MEMBERSHIP AND CDIB CARDS must be included with the application. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to URINALYSIS TO SCREEN FOR ILLEGAL DRUG USE AND A BACKGROUND SCREENING. Employment will be contingent upon drug test results and background screening.

The Dental Assistant function is to perform all routine and advanced chairside functions while providing the incumbent an opportunity to maintain advanced expanded function skills. Only those employees possessing advanced expanded function certificates are to be assigned to this position. Duties: • Restores teeth after preparation has been accomplished includes selection, contouring and placement of matrices, placement of bases and liners and packing, carving and polishing simple alloy restorations • Places and finishes simple composite restorations and places and contours temporary restorations • Provides dental chairside assisting, fully anticipating the dentist’s need for various instruments, materials and services • Assists patient in completing medical history, reviews medical history for significant findings • Records examination and treatment information in the patient record • Takes preliminary impressions for study models, removes sutures, places surgical gauze following extractions, places and removes rubber dam applies desensitizing agents, and applies and removes periodontal dressings • Performs routine dental laboratory procedures including pouring and trimming models, constructing custom trays, and fabrication of base plates and wax rims • Cements space maintainers and stainless steel crowns at the direction of the Dentist • Responsible for cleaning, sharpening, packaging and sterilizing all dental instruments and for proper storage when not in use • Correctly exposes, processes and mounts intra and extra-oral radiographs • Performs oral prophylaxis and applies topical fluoride treatments • Operates ultrasonic scaler [cavitron] and uses hand instruments to remove visible calculus • Places pit and fissure sealants • Orders necessary supplies and keeps clinic properly stocked at all times • Relays to patients post treatment instructions as well a motivating and instructing patients in proper home care and disease prevention techniques • Presents information to community groups on oral health and dental disease prevention at the direction of the dentist • Maintains dental clinic in a clean and orderly manner. Provides routine maintenance on all dental equipment • Takes and records blood pressure • Periodically performs advanced expanded functions in order to maintain clinical skills developed during formal training in advanced expanded functions • Performs reversible intra-oral techniques, specifically routine restoration of teeth with alloy and composite materials • Recognizes common dental disorders such as dental caries and periodontal inflammation, and ability to perform procedures to treat these conditions when directed by the dentist • Must adhere to Osage Nation Policies and accrediting agency’s standards • Other duties as assigned by the Dentist
Qualifications: ?Must hold an Oklahoma Dental Permit from the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry ?Must be a Certified Dental Assistant in the state of Oklahoma ?At least 1-2 years’ experience in a dental office environment preferred ?Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Nation ?Knowledge of HIPPA and Privacy Act ?Knowledge of dental anatomy and radiographic techniques in order to correctly expose, process and mount radiographs ?Knowledge of dental terminology in order to accurately record treatment and examination information to patient file, and ability to file and retrieve patient records ?Knowledge and skill of tooth isolation techniques required to maintain a dry field for placement of restorations and sealants ?Knowledge to sterilize dental instruments and keep clinic clean and presentable to clients ?Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics ?Requires a high level of problem solving skills ?Must maintain confidentiality at all times ?Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs ?Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills ?Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions ?Must be able to pass a criminal background check ?Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing ?Must have a clean driving record – may be required to drive GSA or tribal vehicles
