Participates as an essential team member in the Medical Clinic following the Patient Centered Medical Home [PCMH] model of care. The Tribal Physician provides high quality, comprehensive medical services to the population of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan and all others eligible to receive services at Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center. Competitive Salary and Student Loan Reimbursement eligible either with National Health Service Corps or Indian Health Service.
Duties: Provide courteous, respectable, outpatient medical services to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Community and others who are eligible for services through Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center. Provide after hours, weekend and holiday telephone coverage for Nimkee Clinic Patients. Call schedule is rotated with Nimkee medical providers. Provide periodic and/or regular visits to Andawod Assisted Living, Nursing homes and Extended Care Facilities and Saganing Community Center as prearranged and or scheduled by the Medical Clinic Director. Occasional home visits on patients who are homebound or have extreme difficulty traveling to the Medical Clinic. Ensure communicable disease control within the tribal community through screening, treatment, education, follow-up, reporting, and documenting cases. Provides a full range of emergency services and crisis intervention including life-saving emergency procedures in order to stabilize a patient sufficiently to transport to a hospital facility. Provide patient education related to health conditions and recommended treatments, as well as, the general promotion of health and prevention of disease. Participate in monthly meetings for Diabetic Case Management, Pain Management, Behavioral Health and other meetings designated by the Medical Clinic Director. Collaborates and provides medical insight with Medical Clinic staff and Public Health staff to plan, coordinate and implement specialty programs and clinics. Prescribes medications, monitors effectiveness and makes appropriate dosage adjustments. Review charts for medication refills and makes adjustments based upon patient response and need. Maintains timely, accurate and complete medical documentation of all patient visits and contacts utilizing the Electronic Health Record [E.H.R.] of the Resource and Patient Management System [RPMS]. Arrange referral for those patients requiring care for specialty services and/or services unavailable at Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center. Coordinate the use of Purchase Referred Care [PRC] in cooperation with the Managed Care Committee. Provide Medical/Clinical supervision and backup services for the Tribal Family Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistant at the clinic. Assist with facilitation, participation and mentorship of Medical students, Physician Assistant students, and Family Nurse Practitioner students, attending approved Colleges and or Universities, and assigned to Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center, Medical Clinic for their clinical student rotation experience. Responsible for participating in and conducting quarterly general and focused peer reviews of selected patient records for quality assurance. Develop a team approach to providing medical/clinical outpatient care to Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center patients. Participate in screening programs and data collection as appropriate or deemed necessary by the Tribal Health Administrator and Medical Clinic Director. Provide Medical consultation to Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center staff as needed. Compiles with the indicators and guidelines of the Clinical Reporting System [CRS]/Government Performance and Results Act [GPRA] assists with analysis of the data collected to improve patient care. Participates in quality improvement and assurance processes and studies to improve patient services and care. Actively participates in quality improvement committee and/or team functions. Complies and follows standards as set for by our accreditation organization, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care [AAAHC]. Maintain Michigan Physician Licensure, Michigan Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance License and Federal Controlled Substance Registration through the US Dept. of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration [DEA]. Maintain up to date Board of Certification, or be grandfathered to allow SCIT to bill 3rd party payers. Attend continuing medical education conferences to keep updated on medical knowledge, new practices and obtain required CME’s. Conference topics shall focus on Native American populations when possible. Other responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Medical Clinic Director.
Qualifications: Must be a M.D. or a D.O. licensed by the State of Michigan/or be eligible to become licensed. Must maintain Michigan Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance License and Federal Controlled Substance Registration through the US Dept. of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration [DEA]. Must maintain up to date Board Certification, or be grandfathered to allow SCIT to bill 3rd party payers. Must pass a fingerprint/background check. Applicants not licensed by the State of Michigan prior to interview will be required to obtain licensure by the State of Michigan before date of hire.
