The San Diego American Indian Health Center is looking for a Medical Director. This opportunity offers the ability to work in a single location minutes from downtown San Diego and also provides a great work/life balance. The Medical Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the daily operations of the medical department. Works in conjunction with and reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer, and directly supervises the RN clinical director and mid-level practitioners. Will work closely with the CMO to coordinate integrated primary care and behavioral health services for a vulnerable population of underserved patients.
Duties: Maintains, modifies, updates, and approves medical policies and procedures for all Medical Services. Reviews and approves annually the Medical Policy and Procedures manual. Also reviews and approves emergency protocols in Center departments other than the Medical Clinic. Available as consultant to other department directors' topics as needed. Reviews and approves patient care schedule templates with CMO. Establishes and reviews standards of medical care including standing orders for nursing staff. Supervises the RN clinical director and mid-level practitioners. Participation in peer review and quality assurance activities addressing provider performance and quality of care delivered in the medical department. Prepares each month for the Board of Directors a brief (one page) report on the activities of the Medical Center. Participation in appropriate meetings of Council of Community Clinics or other urban community clinic gatherings, and in appropriate meeting of state, regional, or national HIS clinicians or directors. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of health problems and cultural needs of American Indians. Experience working in American Indian community health, preferable with a family practice setting, is preferable. Must have past experience working in a fast-paced, outpatient, primary care environment. Must have past experience being responsible for improving the financial condition of a Medical department.
