General Statement of Duties: Performs patient diagnosis and therapeutic work of routine difficulty in assisting a physician in one or more of the major clinical disciplines: medicine, minor surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics. Supervision Received: Works under the direct medical supervision of the Tribal Health Clinical Director. Supervision Exercised: Serve as lead worker of medical and support personnel, as assigned to the public.
Duties: (Duties may include but are not limited to the following.) Serves as an assistant to the primary care physician while conducting patient diagnosis and therapeutic work in the field clinics. Obtains complete health developmental history from patient or authorized person. Records findings in adequate record and evaluates the patient and the record. Performs or requests special screening and developmental tests and laboratory tests and interprets the results. Performs a basic physical assessment using techniques of observations, inspections, auscultations, percussion and palpation. Assists the primary care physician in the management of patients who acutely or chronically ill within established standing medical orders. Provides health maintenance in the schools and community. Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings, recognizes early stages of serious physical or emotional problems and determines when to refer the patient to the physician for further evaluations. Makes decisions involving health care needs of patients cooperatively with the physician. Performs related work as require.
Qualifications: Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of clinical services and the consultation process of the practice of delivering medical services in primary health care. Ability to diagnose and perform therapeutic tasks; to recognize the needs and concerns of the people; to maintain constructive relationships; and to communicate both orally and in writing. Education: Completion of a Physician's Assistant course of study from an accredited university, college or school. Possession of a current Physician's Assistant certificate required. Must be certified. Must also be CPR certified in ACLS & PALS. Experience: Related to health care field, direct client care or acceptable combination of post high school education and experience. Special Requirements: Must have a valid State driver's license. Incumbent is subject to the CRST Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy and Tribal/Local, Federal and State background checks in accordance with P.L. 101-630, P.L. 101-647, and Resolution No. 86-2013-CR. Confidentiality: Must adhere to all State and Federal Confidentiality/Privacy Act & HIPAA Rules and Regulations. Confidentiality is very important when working with health matters. It is expected that all matters pertaining to individual problems will be kept confidential. This also pertains to personnel issues. Failure to comply will be cause for dismissal.
