DE0453: Patient-Centered Communication Basics [Live Webinar, Portland Area only]
This course will address the different methods to elicit and understand the patient’s perspective, concerns, ideas, expectations, needs, feelings and function. Understanding the patient within his or her unique psychosocial context. Helping patients to share power and responsibility by involving the patient in choices to the degree that they wish. Reaching a shared understanding of the problem and its treatments with the patient that is concordant with the patient’s values.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Understanding different communication styles
2. Learn how to effectively communicate with patients to improve patient relationship
3. Learn how to communicate with patient using telehealth
Oral Disease & the Impact on Systemic Health

Participants should be dental staff from IHS, tribal, and urban programs in the Portland Area only.

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
