Summary:

This course will provide an overview of the most common bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases encountered in the health care arena, specifically those to which dental professionals may be exposed. In addition use of PPE [personal protective equipment] and sterilization techniques will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify and discuss the most frequently cited OSHA standards in dental offices.
2. Identify and discuss the “Primary” OHSA standards that apply to the dental profession.
3. Review the OHSA “Blood borne Pathogens” standard [29 CFR 1910.1030]
- Exposure control plan
- Exposure determination listing
- Universal precautions
- Hepatitis B immunizations
- Engineering and work practice controls
- Post exposure evaluation and follow-up
4. Review the OSHA “Hazardous Communications” standard [29 CFR 1910.1200].
5. Review Protective equipment [PPE] typically found in a dental office.
6. Review Preparedness planning common to dental offices.
7. Review common worker hazard issues
- Eye wash
- Workplace violence
- Latex allergies
- Tuberculosis
- Medical waste management

Tuition Policy:

Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
