Phoenix and Tucson IHS Area I/T/U Dental Programs only.

The Inter Tribal Council of Arizona Dental Prevention and Clinical Support Center’s purpose of this
8 hour course is to provide relevant CDE training to the Phoenix and Tucson Areas IHS, Tribal and Urban Dental Programs. The participants can expect to receive trainings in: Dental Infection Control, The Joint Commission and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care visit preparation, OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, Program Management using the Dental Clinic Needs Assessment for Developing a Model for Improvement and Teledentistry, including hands on opportunity to experience the Teledentistry technology.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of a needs assessment

  • Discuss the perceived needs of dental clinics in the Phoenix and Tucson IHS Areas

  • Describe methods for establishing a Model fo Improvement or a Quality Improvement Plan

  • Describe prevention strategies for occupational exposures.

  • Discuss the need for prompt medical evaluation following an occupational exposure incident.

  • Describe hand hygiene, disinfection, and instrument processing procedures.

  • Describe current approaches intended to improve the quality of dental treatment water.

  • Discuss special infection prevention and control considerations including dental infection
    prevention and control program evaluation and management.

  • Discuss preparing for visits by The Joint Commission [TJC] and the Accreditation Association for
    Ambulatory Health Care [AAAHC].

  • Discuss updates to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.

  • Recall the legal requirements for Affiliated Practice Dental Teams in Arizona.

  • Recall the services an Arizona Affiliated Practice Dental Hygienist can provide.

  • Define teledentistry.

  • Identify the various types of equipment currently used for teledentistry

  • Describe the manner in which teledentistry-acquired patient information is encrypted and
    transmitted to meet HIPAA and HITECH standards.

  • Explain in his or her own words how teledent istry-assisted dental teams benefit the patient,
    the affiliated practice dental hygienist , the affiliated practice dentist, and the agency
    providing the services.

    Tuition Policy:

    Tuition must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start date of any course. Request for refunds must be received in writing at least two weeks before the course begins. For each refund request, there will be an administrative charge of $100. No refunds will be made to registrants who fail to attend a course. If IHS CDE program cancels a course, then 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
